About the instructor
Hi, I'm Hunter Cascagnette (they/them). I'm an interdisciplinary artist, deer/ moose hide tanner, harvester, herb grower & herbalist based on Mnidoo Mnising, Manitoulin Island, Ontario. 

 

I graduated a 3-year clinical herbalism program in September 2025 studying with RH Abrah Arneson in Wakefield, Quebec. 

 

I've been tanning hides since 2017 and teaching the skill since 2019. 
 
I’m excited about sharing my knowledge & deep love for hide tanning and plant medicines!

Currently, I'm available to teach in-person on Manitoulin Island, in Greater Sudbury District and areas surrounding mid-Northern Ontario but if you're located near these areas and would like to book me, please reach out.

Hide Tanning Bookings
Hosting a full immersion 5-7+ Day deer or moose hide tanning camp where we learn the full process or a large portion of hide tanning stages requires a large budget because there are many associated costs.
 
I can be booked to travel in Ontario for full immersion hide camps if all my costs will be covered and time well compensated. If you'd like me to supply tools, equipment and maybe even hides, I'm available to travel within a few hours driving distance of Manitoulin Island to teach.
 
1-2 Day Hide Tanning Demonstrations are available for booking and cost less to host. These will cover an overview of 1 or 2 stages of hide tanning. I can be booked for hide demonstrations locally in the regions named above.

I will rent out tools and equipment needed for hosting a hide camp and demonstrations.
