About
Medicines From The Land (MFTL) is run by me, Hunter Cascagnette. I'm a nonbinary/ trans/ two spirit multidisciplinary artist and herbalist of mixed French, Scottish, English settler and Georgian Bay Métis ancestry based on Mnidoo Mnising/ Manitoulin Island on Georgian Bay/ Lake Huron in Ontario.
I do various aspects of hide tanning, growing, harvesting, medicine making and antler work for the business with my hound dog bestie Bucky / Bashkwegin.
I am trained in western clinical herbalism. I graduated from a 3-year clinical herbalism program in October 2025 studying with Registered Herbalist Abrah Arneson. I've been growing, harvesting and making herbal medicines since 2016. My herbal care is rooted in forever deepening relationships and reciprocity with the land, plant medicines and ancestors.
MFTL herbal products are made from homegrown and sustainably wildcrafted plants harvested according to the health of local ecosystems. Other than the odd variety, MFTL does not outsource plants. Herbal products are made with seasonal plants harvested by me, Hunter, to offer you potent, local herbal medicines made in relationship.
Deer and moose hides are traditionally brain/ smoke tanned to create beautiful smoked suede/ buckskin that can be made into garments like moccasins, mitts, earrings, wallets, bags, etc.
Antler jewelry pieces are carefully handcrafted (cut, sanded, buffed, drilled and assembled). Antler is locally sourced.
